What is the Pioneer Pledge Drive?
We raise funds primarily through parent donations for the Encinitas Educational Foundation at Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary. The funds pay for music, science and reading consultants and our Extreme Lunch coach as well as support materials and teacher development. Without these donations, we would not have these programs at OPE. The Pioneer Pledge Drive runs from Thursday, August 25th through Friday, September 9th.
What does the "ONE and DONE" Campaign mean?
If you can make a $450 commitment per child and pay by December 2011, EEF thanks you for your support with the following special incentives:
- A commemorative brick with up to 3 lines of text personalized by you. The brick will be placed around the Giving Tree at the front of school.
- Two tickets to the Fireman's Pancake Breakfast in April 2012.
- Your child's one-of-a-kind piece of artwork at the end of the school year.
How do I make a donation?
This year's "ONE and DONE" Campaign offers 4 payment options:
1. Make one lump sum payment by check - download a Pledge Form and submit with your check. You will receive incentive gifts.
2. Make one lump sum payment online via PayPal using a credit card or your PayPal account. You will receive incentive gifts.
3. Set up four equal payments (September, October, November, December) online via PayPal using your PayPal account or credit card. You will receive incentive gifts.
4. Setup up nine equal payments (September through May) online via PayPal using your PayPal account or credit card. You will not receive incentive gifts.
What does EEF at OPE support?
The foundation supports the music, science, reading, math and Extreme Lunch programs at our school. It also pays for instructional material for teachers as well as teacher development.
How does it impact my child?
Due to the economic times, funds provided by the State are under constant threat. EEF supports all the programs that the State no longer funds.
- All 4th through 6th graders receive science instruction twice a week for 50 minutes. As a result, 5th grade students have consistently scored well on the Science STAR test with scores as high as 97% proficiency. Our science consultant also assists with our Science Attack Greenhouse program which all students benefit from.
- All students receive music instruction and participate in two musical performances each school year.
- Classroom sizes have increased in the last few years but not as much as in other districts. Children that need additional assistance in reading and math are able to get it through our consultants. It benefits all students in the classroom when every student performs at their best.
- Technology instruction ensures that each students gets "hands-on" computer training.
- EEF supports instructional materials in the classroom and teacher development.
How is the budget allocated?
Last year, the budget was allocated as follows:
Who decides what programs EEF funds support?
OPE's School Site Council determines the priorities and the corresponding budget. The SSC is made up of 7 parents and 7 staff members. They evaluate our students' needs and decide which programs should be implemented using the foundation's funds.
Why a we requesting a larger donation than last year for the Pioneer Pledge Drive?
EEF seeks to raise $300,000 a year which translates into $450 per students based on our current enrollment. In the past, EEF asked for parents to donate in both the Fall and in the Spring. To provide a longer range view of our financial status and to make plans and commitments with a greater sense of confidence and certainty, we are asking for families to commit ONCE at the beginning of the school year - ONE and DONE!
Will we still have the Spring Auction Fundraiser?
Yes! Parents like getting out and having fun while raising money for a good cause...our children's education. It will be called our "Spring Soiree" and will be similar to last year's fundraiser at Tommy Vs.
What other fundraising events/programs does EEF at OPE plan?
We are relying on the Pioneer Pledge "ONE and DONE" Campaign to raise the majority of our budget. However, we also adminster other programs (many of these are passive fundraisers) to raise additional funds:
